Looking to get a head start before hitting the real slopes? Sandown Sports has been the go-to spot for skiing lessons in the South of England since 1974. With two purpose-built ski slopes, including a 200-meter main slope with ramps and a dedicated nursery slope, we cater to all skill levels. Our experienced team of tutors will guide you every step of the way. Plus, with full equipment hire included in your lesson price, you won’t need to worry about bringing your own gear—just focus on having fun and building your skills!
Level 1: Building Strong Foundations
By the end of Level One, you will be able to:
Learn to carry your equipment safely to and from the starting point.
Master putting on and taking off your gear with a focus on safety.
Move confidently on a flat slope, showing good balance and awareness of others around you.
Climb up a slope using the side step technique, without slipping back.
Safely control your speed using a snowplough, always mindful of other slope users.
Adjust the size of your snowplough to come to a smooth, natural stop.
Execute controlled snowplough turns at a steady, slow pace.
Complete at least three controlled turns as you descend the slope.
Properly ride the nursery slope lift with confidence.
Elevate Level 2: Advancing Your Skills
By the end of Level two, you will be able to:
Master a strong snowplough at higher speeds with solid edge control.
Traverse the slope in parallel, applying the right pressure on the downhill ski.
Finish with a clean parallel stop across the slope.
Blend plough-parallel turns, starting in a snowplough and ending in parallel.
Execute a smooth sideslip while keeping skis aligned.
Turn effectively with a solid pole plant, maintaining good posture.
Keep consistent contact between your shins and boots.
Understand the basics of the FIS safety code.

Our head ski coach, Chris, is dedicated to fostering an environment that blends technical expertise with enjoyment. Chris focuses on technique, confidence, and progression, believing that skiing is about more than just mastering movements. It's about understanding the mountain, developing a personal style, and nurturing a lifelong passion for the sport.
Tom is a high-energy, fun-loving ski instructor who’s all about making skiing an unforgettable experience. He teaches both Level 1 and Level 2 courses, guiding everyone from total beginners to those looking to refine their skills. Tom’s goal is to ensure that every student learns, improves, and—most importantly—has a blast on the slopes. His infectious enthusiasm and tailored approach make each lesson both effective and enjoyable, helping you build confidence while having fun.
Geoff is an experienced ski instructor with a structured yet flexible approach to teaching. He believes in building a strong foundation of skills while fostering a deeper understanding of the mechanics behind skiing. Geoff’s lessons focus on precision, efficiency, and confidence-building, ensuring students not only improve but also feel secure on any terrain. His philosophy emphasizes long-term progression and mastery, helping skiers at all levels continue to grow and develop their abilities.
The Lookout is our brand-new restaurant and bar at The Oakwood, offering stunning views across Surrey and West London. Open 7 days a week, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind after you've hit the slopes. Enjoy a leisurely brunch—served daily until 4pm—or grab a bite from our bar menu later in the day.
When the weather’s good, our deck area is ideal for alfresco dining. At The Lookout, it's all about savoring great food, drinks, and breathtaking scenery with friends.
